Day-Timer Technologies Launches Day-Timer Organizer 2.0; New version of award-winning personal information manager adds dozens of new features to enhance power, ease of use, familiarity and value.

San Mateo, Spanish for St. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 1995--Day-Timer Technologies today announced version 2.0 of its award-winning Day-Timer Organizer(TM) personal information manager (PIM (1) (Protocol Independent Multicast) A multicast routing protocol endorsed by the IETF. Used in conjunction with an existing unicast routing protocol, it comes in two flavors: Dense Mode (PIM-DM) is used when recipients in the target group are in a concentrated ) software, offering dozens of advanced features that further boost the program's power, ease of use, and familiarity.

It is available in retail stores and through the Day-Timer catalog as a standalone product and as part of a complete time management system with the popular paper-based Day-Timer products.

Priced at only $59.95, Day-Timer Organizer 2.0 offers the most comprehensive network interfaces and cross-platform support available in any PIM. It is available for MS-Windows and Macintosh platforms, in both single-user and network versions.

Day-Timer Organizer provides scheduling, task management, address book, notebook and expense tracking functions in tightly integrated, easily navigated modules. Like Day-Timer Organizer 1.0, version 2.0 of the popular package mimics the world-famous paper-based Day-Timer system, so that users of paper planners can easily transition to Day-Timer Organizer on their personal computer or network systems.

New Features

Day-Timer Organizer 2.0 offers dozens of new features and enhancements. Highlights include:

Improved telephony features. Day-Timer Organizer 2.0 features support for the TAPI (Telephony API) A programming interface from Microsoft and Intel that is part of Microsoft's WOSA architecture. It allows Windows client applications to access voice services on a server.  and TSAPI (Telephony Services API) A telephony programming interface from Novell and AT&T. Based on the international CSTA standard, TSAPI is designed to interface a telephone PBX with a NetWare server to provide interoperability between PCs and telephone equipment.  telephony interfaces, allowing users to more fully integrate their phones and PCs. This support, combined with the product's new call handling features such as Speed Dial, Hold, Forward/Transfer, and Conference calling, enables users to manage calls quickly and easily from within the Day-Timer Organizer program. In addition, Day-Timer Organizer 2.0 provides a caller identification screen that automatically pops up and displays information on incoming callers.

New address book functions. With Day-Timer Organizer 2.0, users can now customize labels and address layouts, enter up to four electronic mail addresses for each contact, and search for names and addresses using a powerful custom search option. Users can also attach spreadsheets, word processing word processing, use of a computer program or a dedicated hardware and software package to write, edit, format, and print a document. Text is most commonly entered using a keyboard similar to a typewriter's, although handwritten input (see pen-based computer) and  documents and other files to an address record -- or to a meeting, to-do list or any other type of entry -- for easy viewing and access.

Easier printing. The new version offers a wider variety of printing options, enabling users to more easily take their electronic information "to go." Users can, for example, select a single module from the daily planner -- such as a schedule or to-do list -- to print. They can also customize layouts for printing international addresses.

Enhanced third-party application support. Day-Timer Organizer 2.0 makes it easier for VARs and third-party developers to integrate the product with customized and off-the-shelf applications through a new API New API (also referred to as NAPI) is an interface to use interrupt mitigation techniques for networking devices in the Linux kernel. Such an approach is intended to reduce the overhead of packet receiving.  utilizing Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) A message protocol in Windows that allows application programs to request and exchange data between them automatically.

Enhanced network support. The only full-featured, cross platform PIM that is network-ready right out of the box, Day-Timer Organizer 2.0 features improved user administration facilities, and a new, streamlined TeamOrganizer(TM) view for point-and-click scheduling of multiple participants for meetings, workshops and other group activities. Day-Timer Organizer for networks also offers automatic notification of meeting invitees, task delegation, messaging, and selective sharing of addresses and notes. Network and single versions of the software may be combined to support up to 720 users per database.

Day-Timer Organizer for networks runs on Novell NetWare (operating system, networking) Novell NetWare - Novell, Inc.'s proprietary networking operating system for the IBM PC.

NetWare uses the IPX/SPX, NetBEUI or TCP/IP network protocols. It supports MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows, OS/2, Macintosh and Unix clients.
