Day out to mark the end of era for school.


HUNDREDS of pupils and staff from a Northumberland school have enjoyed a special day out as part of a series of activities to mark its final term.

Eleven coaches were required to take 550 youngsters, teachers, assistants, cooks, cleaners and other staff from Wensleydale Middle School in Blyth on the mass outing to Herrington Country Park in Sunderland.

They took part in a day of activities, which was paid for with the help of fundraising raffles and events held at the school.

Children were able to choose from 10 separate activities including football, rounders, photography, sketching, pond dipping, orienteering orienteering

Cross-country footrace in which each participant uses a map and compass to navigate between checkpoints along an unfamiliar course. Introduced in Sweden in 1918, it later spread throughout Europe. World championships have been held since 1966.

After lunch in the Herrington Park amphitheatre, the highlight of the day was the final of the Wensleydale's Got Talent competition.

Wensleydale Middle, which opened 31 years ago, will close its doors on July 17 as part of a major educational reorganisation Noun 1. reorganisation - the imposition of a new organization; organizing differently (often involving extensive and drastic changes); "a committee was appointed to oversee the reorganization of the curriculum"; "top officials were forced out in the cabinet  in Blyth, including the creation of the pounds 30m, all-age Bede Academy.

Headteacher, Neil Jones Neil Jones (born February 16, 1982) is a New Zealand soccer player who plays as a striker. He currently is assistant coach at the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos.

Jones is a member of the New Zealand national team, known as the All Whites. He collected 2 caps (1 goal) in 2004.
, said: "As part of our celebrations to mark the final year of the school, we were very keen to involve all staff and children in this day out.

"The event took a lot of organisation but it was worth the effort, as everyone said how much they had enjoyed the day.''
