Day laborers.

I take exception to the Feb. 6 op-ed article "Day Laborers day labor
n.
Labor hired and paid by the day.

day laborer n.

Noun 1.
Taking All the Risk for Just Little Reward."

First of all, most of the day laborers are illegal immigrants illegal immigrant n. an alien (non-citizen) who has entered the United States without government permission or stayed beyond the termination date of a visa. (See: alien)  who are not supposed to be here at all. If they don't have enough work, then they are on welfare--food stamps, housing, schools for their kids, medical care, etc., all paid for by California taxpayers to the tune of $10 billion a year.

If they were really needed, they would have plenty of work to do. However, we are not supposed to be hiring illegals. Even at that, if they get hurt on a job here, they are entitled to workers' compensation workers' compensation, payment by employers for some part of the cost of injuries, or in some cases of occupational diseases, received by employees in the course of their work.  (which citizens pay for) and if they get hurt at your residence and you don't have workers' comp comp

See comparison.
(how could you for a day-job situation?) they can sue you!

Now tell me, who is taking all the risks?
