Daxor Corporation Announces Queens Medical Center of Honolulu, HI Acquires Second Blood Volume Analyzer.NEW YORK -- Daxor Corporation (AMEX AMEX See: American Stock Exchange :DXR DXR Danbury Municipal Airport, Danbury CT (airport code) DXR Data Extraction and Recording DXR X-Director DXR Dynamic Extended Resolution ), a medical instrumentation and biotechnology company, today announced receipt of a signed trial agreement from the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii for its second Blood Volume Analyzer. Queen's Medical Center, which purchased its first BVA-100 following a trial agreement, utilized blood volume measurements for various clinical applications. This second BVA-100 will be utilized specifically for treating blood volume derangements in the critical care unit. Queens is the first medical center to utilize two blood volume analyzers. Dr. Mihae Yu, Professor of Surgery and Program Director of Surgical Critical Care, said that, "I have found blood volume measurements to be extremely useful in guiding both fluid and red cell replacement. Approximately one third of the time our clinical criteria, combining physical exam, clinical information, laboratory data and chest x-ray, may be misleading in terms of the intravascular intravascular /in·tra·vas·cu·lar/ (in?trah-vas´ku-lar) within a vessel. in·tra·vas·cu·lar adj. Also, we may be over as well as under-transfusing blood cells when using hematocrit Hematocrit Definition The hematocrit measures how much space in the blood is occupied by red blood cells. It is useful when evaluating a person for anemia. Purpose Blood is made up of red and white blood cells, and plasma. as a guide, since hematocrit values may not reflect red cell volume. We need to study blood volume measurements further and determine its impact on patient outcomes. However, I have found the BVA-100 to be clinically useful as to warrant a second unit." The BVA-100 service is provided through the Nuclear Medicine Department. Queens Medical Center conducted the initial surgical critical care blood volume clinical studies, the results of which were presented at the 2005 Society of Critical Care Medicine's annual meeting. The conclusion of the study specified that knowledge about a patient's blood volume status could make a significant difference in the approach to fluid and blood management. Daxor Corporation manufactures and markets the BVA-100, a semi-automated Blood Volume Analyzer. The BVA-100 is used in conjunction with Volumex, a single use diagnostic kit. Among nationally renowned hospitals which have purchased the BVA-100 Blood Volume Analyzer are The Mayo Clinic, The Cleveland Clinic and New York University New York University, mainly in New York City; coeducational; chartered 1831, opened 1832 as the Univ. of the City of New York, renamed 1896.
