Daxor Announces the Publication of Cleveland Clinic Study in the American Heart Journal - Blood Volume Measurement More Accurate Guide in Treating Heart Failure than BNP.

NEW YORK -- Daxor Corporation (AMEX:DXR), a medical instrumentation and biotechnology company, announces the publication of a study by the Cleveland Clinic in American Heart Journal. The study's data discusses that blood volume (BV) measurement may be a more accurate guide in optimizing treatment of congestive heart failure patients than brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) testing.

BNP is a widely used diagnostic test identified as the marker of choice for diagnosing and assessing the severity of heart failure. The Cleveland Clinic study, published in November's issue of American Heart Journal (Volume 150, Number 5), compared critical invasive hemodynamic measurements in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) to BV and BNP measurements before and after treatment. The study noted that, "In general, changes in BV with treatment correlated better with actual hemodynamics then did BNP.... These preliminary data suggest that BV rather than BNP may be a more accurate guide in treatment of CHF, even in the absence of invasive monitoring."

The study data was reported from America's #1 Heart Hospital, the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Kaufman Center for Heart Failure, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH. The senior authors of the article included Dr. Karen James, Dr. Richard Troughton and Dr. Fetnat Fouad-Tarazi. Dr. James commented, "Although this was a small pilot study, it demonstrated that blood volume measurement may be a more useful tool than invasive hemodynamic and BNP measurements when treating a heart failure patient's volume derangement. Even invasive hemodynamic measurements do not provide a quantification of a patient's blood, plasma and red cell volume. That important quantification comes from a direct measure of blood volume, as provided by the blood volume analyzer."
