Daxor Announces Howard University Hospital Acquires Blood Volume Analyzer BVA-100.

NEW YORK -- Daxor Corporation (AMEX:DXR), a medical instrumentation and biotechnology company, today announced the receipt of a signed trial agreement from Howard University Hospital of Washington, D.C.

"Among other medical applications we are particularly interested to utilize Daxor's BVA-100 in determining blood volume in our hypertensive patients," stated Dr. Deborah Williams, Associate Professor and Acting Chief, Division of Cardiology. Dr. Williams noted that, "Several studies have suggested that hypertension in African-Americans is more often due to an overload of blood volume. The first course of treatment for volume overloaded hypertension is typically the use of diuretics. However, inappropriate use of diuretics in African-American patients with high blood pressure can lead to significant poor outcomes such as kidney failure, subsequently requiring dialysis treatment. The BVA-100 will be able to clearly distinguish high blood pressure due to an overload of blood volume vs. vasoconstriction, which will provide a more precise diagnosis and a more accurate course of treatment. This approach to treating African Americans with high blood pressure may provide better outcomes."

The Nuclear Medicine Department of Howard University Hospital will provide the Blood Volume Analysis BVA-100 service.

Among nationally renowned hospitals which have purchased the BVA-100 Blood Volume Analyzer after using it on a trial basis are The Mayo Clinic, The Cleveland Clinic and New York University Medical Center.
