Dawn Martens, a pioneer in introducing young people to opera at Buchanan Park Public School, in Hamilton, Ont., has published A is for Aria aria (är`ēə), elaborate and often lengthy solo song with instrumental accompaniment. In the 16th cent. it was a melody improvised over a strophic bass line, and a distinction was made between instrumental, vocal, and dance arias. , an introduction to the art form in a colorful alphabetized al·pha·bet·ize

With a foreword by baritone baritone or barytone (both: băr`ĭtōn), male voice, in a lighter and higher range than a bass but lower than a tenor.  John Fanning and vibrant illustrations by former Grade 5 members of the Buchanan Park Opera Club (the cover illustration, shown here, is Erin Lafferty's for "Q is for queen--she of the night"), the book gives young readers a lively introduction to all aspects of opera and opera production in rhyme and explanatory notes.
