Davidson's managing very nicely thank you; Fencer Beth lands lead role with GB squad.

BETH DAVIDSON is bidding to mastermind international glory in Belfast next month after bagging one of fencing's top jobs.

The Regional Fencing Development Officer, based at Team Northumbria's Newcastle offices, has been named England's Team Manager for the Five Nations tournament in Belfast on November 21.

Born and back living in Darlington, Davidson has been assistant team manager at two Five Nations events - in 2007 and 2008 - and previously captained two Senior Commonwealth Championships for England, achieving team gold and silver medals.

She said: "This is another great opportunity for me and a real honour, and if it helps to raise the profile of fencing in the North East then even better.

Davidson took up fencing 14 years ago while working in Lincolnshire, and then moved back to the North East to train with Hungarian fencing master Laszlo Jakab at Durham University. Since then, the experienced swordswoman swords·wom·an

has contested five National Team Championships.

She enjoyed her greatest success earlier this year when she became the youngest champion in competition history at theVeteran Commonwealth Championships.

It was a tale of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat after she came back from 9-6 down against favourite Jane Hutchison to win the final 10-9.

Davidson joined the Northumbria University Northumbria University is a modern university located in Newcastle upon Tyne in North East England. Schools

It was in her role as former senior international fencer she headed to the Channel Island of Jersey earlier this month.

With fellow Laszlo's Fencing Club member Duncan Rowlands, she was part of a squad which bagged five medals for England.

She added the women's team sabre gold to her individual prize - capping a thrilling tournament for the Northumbria University star.
