NEWCASTLE Falcons has been further boosted by the appointment of David Roberts as commercial director.

A co-founder of the Great North Run and Great Run series, David is managing director of sports marketing company, Roberts & Partners Ltd.

Falcons chairman, Dave Thompson, said: "David's arrival represents a key strategic appointment for the club, and we are delighted to have him on board.

"He has a track record of success in business and, most importantly, a great affinity with the sporting market here in the North East."

David has been responsible for a number of projects including the commercial rights to PGA Senior Championships, Hartlepool Tall Ships 2010 and assisting Durham County Cricket Club in their sponsorship requirements, as well as working for Nike Europe as Product Line Manager (Running).

Formerly of Nova International, where he was new business director under the guidance of Brendan Foster, David was responsible for securing all major event sponsorships, and negotiating television contracts with BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five and Sky Sports.

He said: "I'm excited about the possibilities for Newcastle Falcons, and cannot wait to get started."
