This book is one in a series which includes Ezra Jack Keats Ezra Jack Keats (March 11 1916 – May 6 1983), author of The Snowy Day, was an easel artist and one of the most important children's literature authors and illustrators of the 20th Century. , Robert McCloskey, William Steig William Steig (November 14, 1907 – October 3, 2003) was a prolific American cartoonist, sculptor and, later in life, an author of popular children's literature.

Steig was born in New York City to Polish-Jewish immigrants who encouraged his artistic leanings.

 Williams. Each has created picture books that have become classics. These little 8 x 8" volumes focus on the growth of the artists from childhood until adulthood. They tell simple anecdotes which young elementary students should find attractive. They are illustrated with photographs of the artists and their contemporaries.

Very few examples of their work are included. These mini-biographies are useful in illuminating il·lu·mi·nate
