David Shpilberg Named Chief Technology Officer for Ernst & Young Consulting Services Worldwide; IT Veteran Assumes Crucial Position as the Firm Propels Clients into the 21st Century.

Global professional services powerhouse Ernst & Young LLP today named David Shpilberg chief technology officer for consulting services worldwide.

Shpilberg, who will maintain his role as vice chairman of consulting services, will oversee the firm's information technology strategy, implementation and outsourcing capabilities for Ernst & Young's extensive client base. In this capacity, he will lead the development of technology services focused on e-commerce and the next generation of the Internet. He also will continue to direct the firm's strategic ventures and acquisitions efforts, focused on rapidly expanding the depth and breadth of Ernst & Young's consulting services around the world.

Shpilberg will hold a crucial position for Ernst & Young. More and more of the firm's consulting business derives from the Internet economy. This year, Ernst & Young expects that it will provide more than $1 billion in e-business related services to its clients firmwide --up from $150 million in 1998. As CTO, Shpilberg will play a key role in driving strategies and solutions that transform clients into ".companies." He has helped lead Ernst & Young's technology efforts since 1994, when he was named national director of information technology consulting for the firm.

Shpilberg brings to his position 25 years of management and consulting experience in IT strategy, software development, network computing, artificial intelligence and business process redesign. During his tenure with Ernst & Young, Shpilberg has helped engineer a number of major technology solutions for large clients. As vice chairman of Asia Pacific Consulting Operations, he oversaw the successful migration of global companies' information management systems.

Shpilberg joined Ernst & Young in 1991 as national director of financial services consulting. Prior to joining Ernst & Young, from 1989 to 1991, he was vice president of information technology for Goldman, Sachs and Company, where he ran the firm's global information systems for the equities and asset management divisions.

Shpilberg holds degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a bachelor's of science in Aeronautics and Astronautics, a master's degree in transportation planning and a Ph.D. in management science. He has served as an adjunct professor for the Wharton School of Business, IESA in Caracas, Venezuela, and Georgia State University. His work on risk management, statistical decision theory and artificial intelligence has been widely published and is the subject of academic awards and a business case developed by Harvard University.
