THE death of Granada Television's former chairman, David Plowright David Ernest Plowright, CBE (11 December 1930–24 August 2006) was a British television executive and producer.

Born in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, he began his career at Granada Television in 1959 as head of local news, and eventually became chairman of the company.
, makes one wonder if there are any senior TV executives fit enough to clean such a luminary's boots?

He resigned when his aggressive new boss, Gerry Robinson Sir Gerrard Jude ("Gerry") Robinson (b. 1948, County Donegal) is an Irish-born British businessman. He is the former (non-executive) Chairman of Allied Domecq and the ex-Chairman/Chief Executive of Granada. , made the impossible demand that profits must be doubled. At his leaving party, Plowright was described as: "An inspirer and fulfiller of dreams' a prince among broadcasters. He leaves behind a little bit of Plowright in all of us."

Who among the purveyors of Love Island and Big Brother would deserve such a valediction today?
