David Mulliken named MTNA-Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year. (Association News).MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National Association MTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee) has named David Mullikin of Lakewood, Colorado The City of Lakewood is a home rule municipality located in Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. Lakewood is the fourth most populous city in the State of Colorado and the 164th most populous city in the United States. , the 2002 MTNA-Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year for his composition entitled Voice of the River Han, commissioned by the Colorado Music Teachers Association. Voice of the River Han is a song cycle for soprano soprano [Ital.,=above], female voice of highest pitch. The three basic types of solo soprano are coloratura, lyric, and dramatic. The coloratura has a great range and impressive vocal agility; the lyric soprano has a light, pretty voice; and the dramatic soprano has and piano trio A piano trio is a group of piano and two other instruments, usually a violin and a cello, or a piece of music written for such a group. It is one of the most common forms found in classical chamber music. with Korean-influenced melodies and rhythms. It is comprised of eight songs, representing four poets plus two anonymous works Anonymous works are works, such as art or literature, that have an anonymous, undisclosed, or unknown creator or author. In the case of works where the creator's name is kept secret, the author's reasons may vary from fear of persecution to protection of his or her . The dates of the poetry span the thirteenth through the eighteenth centuries. The composition was selected from a field of thirty-one submissions by a panel of recognized composers. Mullikin received a cash award of $3,000 and a plaque. The MTNA Composer Commissioning Program is dedicated to encouraging the creation of new works by American composers. The Distinguished Composer of the Year Award is sponsored by Dr. Sylvia Shepherd of California.
