SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 2003

Richmond, VA-based Davenport & Company LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.

LLC - Logical Link Control
(www.davenportllc.com), the oldest and largest independent stock brokerage firm in Virginia, has chosen the ipXcelerator(TM) from Okapi okapi (ōkăp`ē), nocturnal ruminant mammal, Okapia johnstoni, of the giraffe family. It inhabits the almost sunless rain forests of the upper Congo and feeds on leaves.  Software, Inc. (www.okapi-software.com) as a key component in its expanding multi-site disaster recovery system. Okapi Software is a leading developer of D2D2T (Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape) Refers to backing up data on disks first and tape (or optical disc) second. Backing up onto tape is performed at less frequent intervals than from disk to disk. See D2D and virtual tape. (TM) accelerated backup and business continuance solutions using iSCSI.

Davenport's disaster recovery system uses a Tsunami microwave network to connect the servers at Davenport's headquarters to the ipXcelerator located at the company's document storage vault three miles away. At the present time, Davenport is backing up 400-500GB of data to the ipXcelerator, using less than a third of its 1.6TB capacity.

Cutover was March 20 at the Richmond offices, assisted on-site by Okapi's founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Branch said the ipXcelerator's primary use at this time is its high-speed D2D (Disk-to-Disk) Typically refers to backing up data on disks rather than on tape. Branch said he is running D2D backups using iSCSI on a daily basis. "We began backing up data to the ipXcelerator on the first day," he said, "and the Gigabit throughput of the Tsunami microwave link lets us take full advantage of the ipXcelerator's bandwidth." Branch also points to a flawless installation and the ipXcelerator's $19,995 price, "making it one of the best-priced solutions in the disaster recovery market."

Davenport chose the ipXcelerator over a number of competing technologies. Problems cited by Branch included the cost and complexity of Fibre Channel, the prohibitive overhead of NAS (1) See network access server.

The ipXcelerator was sold to Davenport by MPAK MPAK Mini Package  Technologies in San Diego, one of more than 20 VARs in Okapi's distribution channel.
