Dave Hollander, Chief Technology Officer, Contivo, Inc. Gives Talk at the Semantic Interoperability Conference in Houston, TX.HOUSTON -- The Open Group is hosting the conference where Dave Hollander's presentation titled, "Vocabularies: Ontologies Specialized for Data Architecture," will explore how vocabularies specialize ontologies to address data architecture and system interoperability. They borrow from linguistics, XML Schemas This is a list of XML schemas in use on the Internet sorted by purpose. XML schemas can be used to create XML documents for a wide range of purposes such as syndication, general exchange, and storage of data in a standard format. Bookmarks
Interoperability of business systems is the principle goal of many of today's computing technologies: EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) Refers to various techniques used to share data and business processes in large enterprises. When companies acquire another organization, disparate information systems have to be made to work together. , EII (Enterprise Information Integration) Similar to an EIS (executive information system), an EII aggregates current information from all data sources within an organization. , ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) The functions performed when pulling data out of one database and placing it into another of a different type. ETL is used to migrate data, often from relational databases into decision support systems. , Web Services, SOA (1) (Start Of Authority) The first record in a DNS zone file. See DNS records. (2) (Service Oriented Architecture) The modularization of business functions for greater flexibility and reusability. and the Semantic Web. Achieving interoperability requires understanding and adapting to application interfaces and the standards used for the messages that are exchanged between applications. While industry budgets are largely focused on the development of systems to move messages, the real impediment to interoperability is semantics -- analysts estimate semantics may account for up to 95% of the effort. About Contivo Contivo provides solutions that enable enterprises to dramatically reduce implementation and maintenance costs of enterprise-wide integration projects. The Contivo Vocabulary Management Solution (VMS (1) (Virtual Memory System) A multiuser, multitasking, virtual memory operating system for the VAX series from Digital. VMS applications run on any VAX from the MicroVAX to the largest unit. See OpenVMS. ) provides a central semantics-based metadata repository, development tools, infrastructure, and code generators that automate data transformation for application integration across multiple platforms. Contivo recently added capabilities and platform support that extend to legacy systems and Web services. Contivo was founded in 1998 and has forged significant relationships with strategic customers like Hewlett Packard, Agilent Technologies, US Bank, JP Morgan Chase, MetLife, Department of Homeland Security Noun 1.
