Dave Bernard becomes TEI's president.


David L. Bernard of the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter became the 58th President of Tax Executives Institute at the conclusion of TEI's Annual Meeting of Members in August. The meeting, which was held in Bend, Oregon Bend is a city in Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. The name Bend was derived from "Farewell Bend," the designation used by early pioneers to refer to the location along the Deschutes River where the town eventually was platted, one of the few fordable points along the , marked the end of the term for Michael P. The Institute's Annual Meeting of Members also saw the installation of other Institute officers and new representatives from half of TEI's 53 chapters. The meeting also presented the opportunity for the Institute to release its financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2005, which reflected revenues totalling more than $6.1 million, net revenues for the year of approximately $740,000, and net assets Net assets

At the Board of Directors meeting immediately following the annual meeting, Mr. Bernard presented, and the Board affirmed, TEI's goals for the year under the theme of TEI 1. (communications) TEI - Terminal Endpoint Identifier.

 2007: Building on Six Decades of Success: Member-Driven Solutions for Today, Enhanced Effectiveness for Tomorrow. The Institute's objectives include--

* establishing a process for the President and Senior Vice President to consult regularly with the chairs of TEI's technical committees and senior staff to develop, refine, and adapt TEI's advocacy agenda;

* exploring the creation of new chapters or "subchapters" in Europe, Asia, and under-served areas of North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. ;

* possibly expanding TEI's distance-learning offerings to include online programs; and

* refining and expanding TEI's effectiveness in the state and local tax arena in respect of education, advocacy, and networking.

 Committee. A TEI member since 1985, Mr. Bernard has served as TEI's Regional Vice President, President of the Wisconsin Chapter, and Wisconsin Chapter Representative on TEI's Board of Directors. He was instrumental in the formation of the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter and represented that Chapter on the Board until he was elected TEI's 2003-2004 Treasurer. He has also served on TEI's Executive Committee and as chair of the IRS An abbreviation for the Internal Revenue Service, a federal agency charged with the responsibility of administering and enforcing internal revenue laws.  Administrative Affairs Committee.

Mr. Bernard is Vice President-Taxes and Real Estate of Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Neenah, Wisconsin.

Also installed at the Annual Meeting of Members were Robert J. McDonough of the New England Chapter as Senior Vice President, Vincent Alicandri of the Toronto Chapter as Secretary, and Neil D. Traubenberg of the Denver Chapter as Treasurer. Nine Regional Vice Presidents and new Chapter Representatives were also installed. At the Board of Directors meeting immediately following the annual meeting, the chairs of the TEI's steering committees were appointed, including chairs of two new committees on Asian and European taxes.
