Datsyuk nets 2 as Wings snuff Flames

Pavel Datsyuk had two goals and an assist to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.

Tomas Holmstrom added a goal and an assist, and Kris Draper, and Valtteri Filppula also scored for Detroit. Nicklas Lidstrom had two assists, and Chris Osgood made 19 saves

Robyn Regehr, Dion Phaneuf, and Alex Tanguay scored for Calgary, and Jarome Iginla added three assists. Miikka Kiprusoff made 12 saves before being pulled early in the second period after giving up three goals.

Holmstrom gave Detroit a 3-1 lead with his NHL-leading ninth power-play goal 4:36 into the second period. With the Red Wings enjoying a two-man advantage, Holmstrom put a shot through Kiprusoff's pads from the slot for his 13th goal.

Calgary coach Mike Keenan then pulled Kiprusoff in favor of Curtis McElhinney.

Phaneuf brought the Flames within one by scoring a 5-on-3 goal of his own with 5:57 left in the middle period. His slap shot from the high slot beat Osgood for his fifth goal.

Datsyuk's second of the night restored Detroit's two-goal lead 37 seconds into the third period for his seventh of the season. After carrying the puck to the slot area from the neutral zone, Datsyuk lost it momentarily, but regained possession and backhanded a shot past McElhinney.

Tanguay made it 4-3 at 3:02 when he put in Iginla's cross-crease pass to complete a 2-on-1 break for his sixth goal.

Filppula scored his fourth goal 6:13 into the period.

Regehr gave Calgary a 1-0 lead with 8:59 left in the first period when he beat Osgood with a wrist shot from the left point.

Datsyuk tied it with a spectacular effort with 4:11 left in the opening period. After taking a pass from Holmstrom, racing down the high slot, Datsyuk put the puck through the legs of Flames defenseman Cory Sarich, picked the puck up again and beat Kiprusoff just under the crossbar. Draper gave Detroit a 2-1 lead 23 seconds later when he put in a loose puck from the left circle.
