Datron/Transco Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Datron Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:DTSI), today announced that it has received final acceptance for the KOMPSAT-I satellite Receiving and Processing Station (KRPS) by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).

The project included a Datron 13-meter antenna and Datron's Open 2000(R) Ground Station system hardware and software for mission planning, data acquisition and recording, image archive and catalogue, radiometric and geometric imagery correction, and product output.

Datron delivered an integrated control and processing system designed to meet the KARI team's unique requirements. The KOMPSAT-I satellite's payload instrumentation includes two different types of sensors -- a high-resolution panchromatic Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) and a lower-resolution Ocean Scanning Multispectral Imager (OSMI). Each sensor is designed to provide a particular type of imagery or movement for the various research projects being conducted by KARI. Datron designed and developed all of the software programs that perform the radiometric, optometric, blurring correction, and calibration control functions required to produce high-quality imagery in standard product formats.

The ground station's flexibility and performance were enhanced through the easy integration of customized and third-party value-added processing software into the Open 2000 system. The sensor-specific software modules were integrated to process, store and distribute the imagery data, and PCI's Geomatics OrthoEngine(TM) software was integrated for generating final photographic maps of any part of the world. The current Open 2000 installation in the KRPS ground station also offers the capacity to support additional and new-generation satellites.

The KRPS facility is Datron's fourth complete ground station, which includes integration of the Open 2000 system software, incorporation of the ground station hardware, and the actual installation. Datron has installed similar ground stations at the National University of Singapore, Istanbul Technical University in Turkey, and the Hiroshima Institute of Technology  in Japan.
