This upgrade, which includes several new reporting and analysis features, makes Monarch even easier to use and quicker to deploy.

Monarch V4 is significantly more capable than its predecessor. It offers new reporting and analysis features, improved ability to extract data from complex reports, and an enhanced user interface. Version 4 also provides new export capabilities, an extended portable report format, and multi-threaded processing. Upgrading is easy: Version 4 installs in minutes and reads model files created with earlier versions of Monarch.

Enhancements to Monarch V4

-- Reporting and Analysis Enhancements--The summary and charting
capabilities of Monarch have been greatly enhanced. Summary tabs
in Monarch V4 provide a visual interface to multiple summary
views. And summaries no longer inherit the active filter--users
can now apply a specific filter to each summary. New summary
options include the ability to compute the minimum, maximum,
average and percent-of-total for each key, the ability to
accumulate values for unspecified keys and the ability to itemize
detail information at the lowest drill-down level. New charting
options include the ability to resize the chart pane, stagger and
break legends, format chart titles, and create point charts.

-- Improved Import and Extraction Capabilities--Monarch V4 offers an
enhanced template definition interface and six additional append
levels to help users work with complex reports. Furthermore,
Monarch V4 has the ability to read wide reports with up to 1000
characters per line, and reports formatted with ANSI (rather than
     ASCII) characters.

-- Improved Export Capabilities--Datawatch added many new export
formats and the ability to replace or append extracted data to an
existing database, spreadsheet or text file.

-- User Interface Enhancements--Monarch is friendlier than ever
thanks to dozens of user interface enhancements. A particularly
useful feature is the addition of a new Field Definition Wizard
that examines a report and automatically paints fields with
proper field boundaries. Monarch V4 also includes more
informative error messages and has an extended online Help
     system.

-- Performance Enhancements--Monarch V4 is a multi-threaded
application that supports background processing in parallel with
user interface processing. When users open a report and model in
Monarch, the background thread immediately goes to work building
the table and other data structures that underlie the Monarch
session. As a result, Monarch is more responsive than ever
before. In addition, Monarch V4 offers better fundamental
performance for sorting and applying filters in the Table window.

-- Table Window Enhancements--Datawatch has simplified and
standardized the interface for creating filters, sorts and
calculated field expressions, and includes more information on
the Table window status bar. Also enhanced are Monarch's sorting,
     printing and display formatting capabilities.

-- Portable Report Extensions--When publishing a portable report
file (PRF) from Monarch V3, users have the option to save
certain data structures in the portable report object. Monarch V4
extends the PRF file format to include summary data and filter
keys. This provides a performance advantage when users later open
the portable report because summaries and filtered tables are
     instantly available.

About Monarch Report Mining Software

Monarch, which is used by more than 200,000 professionals at 20,000 companies, institutions and government agencies worldwide, works by reading the data contained in any standard ASCII ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a set of codes used to represent letters, numbers, a few symbols, and control characters. The extracted data can also be filtered, sorted, rearranged, and used to create new reports.

By allowing knowledge workers to generate custom views of reports and mine reports for information quickly and easily on their own, Monarch helps reduce the burden placed on IS managers for custom reports and report extracts. Monarch's Portable Report feature also reduces the cost of hardcopy (jargon) hardcopy - A paper printout of data displayed on a screen.

Datawatch has put a lot of thought and attention into its Monarch family of products, which includes both Monarch Version 4 and the new Monarch/ES report warehouse and distribution system. Monarch/ES lets companies give their existing reporting systems much of the functionality of a data warehouse or datamart, but with a much lower investment of time and money. Both products, along with Datawatch's strong marketing efforts, are rapidly establishing the importance of the report mining market.

"Over the past year, our Monarch product family has undergone significant changes to reflect the needs of our customers," added Peterson. "Monarch Version 4 builds on our seven years of experience in turning static paper reports into live documents that can be mined for valuable information. Earlier this year, we responded to our customers' requests by introducing Monarch/ES - an Enterprise Reporting Solution that turns an existing reporting system into the equivalent of a powerful data warehouse or datamart. Monarch/ES was built using our Monarch desktop product and will benefit as well from the enhancements we have made in developing Monarch Version 4. Over the next few months, we will add several new products to the Monarch family that will further help our customers turn report data into powerful business intelligence and further establish the Enterprise Report Mining market."

System Requirements To be used efficiently, all computer software needs certain hardware components or other software resources to be present on a computer system. These pre-requisites are known as (computer) system requirements and are often used as a guideline as opposed to an absolute rule.

Monarch V4 is a native 32-bit application and requires Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  4.0+. V4 can read model files and portable report files created with earlier versions of Monarch. In addition, V4 creates models and portable reports that can be read by earlier versions, but settings associated with V4 enhancements will be ignored.
