Datatel Scholars Foundation Awards Over $500,000 in Scholarships; More than 300 Students Receive Aid for 2006-2007 Academic Year.

FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Datatel Scholars Foundation today announced it has awarded $551,800 in scholarships to 334 high-performing students for the 2006-2007 academic year. This is a 12 percent increase over 2005, reflecting a consistent rise in the number of scholarship recipients. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than 3,000 scholarships totaling over $4 million.

"The Datatel Scholars Foundation remains committed to helping students at Datatel client institutions pursue their academic dreams," said Jane Roth, executive director of the Datatel Scholars Foundation. "It is very gratifying to know that the Foundation is making it possible for outstanding applicants to achieve their educational goals."

Established in 1990, the Datatel Scholars Foundation has maintained a long-standing commitment to supporting higher education by awarding scholarships to students attending Datatel client institutions. This year, 255 students received a Datatel Scholars Foundation Scholarship. Fifty students received Returning Student scholarships, which help qualified scholars pursue higher education degrees after an absence from school of five years or more.

The Foundation also awarded two $2,500 Nancy Goodhue Lynch scholarships to undergraduate students majoring in technology-related fields. These scholarships honor longtime Datatel employee Nancy Goodhue Lynch. Twenty-seven students received Angelfire scholarships, which honor soldiers who have served in the military during combat in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Veterans who have served in the Asian theater (Vietnam, Laos, or Cambodia) between 1964 and 1975, spouses and children of Vietnam veterans, and refugees from Vietnam, Laos, or Cambodia are also eligible for the Angelfire scholarship.

The Datatel Scholars Foundation administers the scholarship program in cooperation with Datatel client institutions. The Foundation is tax-exempt and supported by an annual grant from Datatel, gifts from corporate friends, and contributions from Datatel employees. Datatel assumes all administrative costs, so every dollar raised goes directly toward scholarships to help students.
