This innovative 4GB upgrade is not yet available from Sun Microsystems Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA[3]) is an American vendor of computers, computer components, computer software, and information-technology services, founded on 24 February 1982.  and is Dataram's "third" first-to-market memory upgrade for Sun in seven weeks. Also released recently were 1GB and 2GB memory upgrades for Sun's entry-level Sun Fire V210 and V240 servers.

240 memory upgrade consists of two ECC (1) (Error-Correcting Code) A type of memory that corrects errors on the fly. See ECC memory.

(2) (Elliptic Curve Cryptography) A public key cryptography method that provides fast decryption and digital signature processing.
 DDR (Double Data Rate) Refers to an SDRAM memory chip that increases performance by doubling the effective data rate of the frontside bus. For more details, see SDRAM.

DDR - Double Data Rate Random Access Memory
 DIMMs and were fully qualified for use in the Sun Fire V210 and V240 servers. The DRS240 is available in three capacities--1GB (2 x 512MB), 2GB (2 x 1GB) and the industry's first 4GB (2 x 2GB) option. By providing 16GB system capability, Sun users can choose the V240 over other more expensive servers.

Both servers feature a single or dual 1GHz UltraSPARCIIIi Cu processor in a 1U (V210) or 2U (V240) form-factor running on the Solaris Operating System. Each has eight DIMM (Dual In-Line Memory Module) A printed circuit board that holds memory chips and plugs into a DIMM socket on the motherboard. See memory module.

 slots (four for each processor) and memory must be installed in pairs. The Sun Fire V210 and Sun Fire V240 servers are ideally suited for front-end, enterprise and technical computing applications.
