280L/4096, a 4GB memory upgrade consisting of four low-power 1GB modules, a capacity not offered by Sun for these servers.

The Sun Fire 4800, utilizing the massive 96GB of Dataram memory, the speedy 750MHz UltraSPARC III processors, and the rock solid stability of Solaris 8, was setup to simulate real-time "tick" databases. The result of this configuration was significant performance gains as transaction-based databases are directly linked to memory capacity and processing speed. Prior to this test the Sun Fire 4800 server had a maximum configuration of only 48GB.

"Putting standard-power 4GB upgrades on a Sun Fire midframe 750MHz CPU/Memory Card could potentially draw too much current and overload the power supply," stated Paul Henke, Dataram's Director of Product Marketing. "Sun re-designed their new 900MHz Cards so they can use their 4GB memory, but customers with 750MHz systems were left out. Our engineering team responded to the challenge with an innovative, low-power 4GB upgrade that is guaranteed to be 100% compatible in these servers."

Dataram's focus on memory provides its customers with substantial savings of up to 50% or more when compared to Sun's memory. All Dataram memory products are guaranteed to be 100% compatible with Sun's hardware and software and are backed by a lifetime warranty and free technical support.
