"At the very least Windows 95 is a significant improvement over Windows 3.1, and it can provide significant advantages for networked commercial desktop, mobile, and home environments," said Rob Enderle Rob Enderle, founder of the Enderle Group, is a consultant, writer, and widely quoted technical and legal analyst in the information technology industry. Microsoft, Advanced Micro Devices, the SCO Group, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and Dell are (or have been) among his clients. , Industry Analyst at Dataquest. "Windows 95 will create a whole new playing field for all companies competing in PC-related fields. Dataquest expects clear winners and losers to emerge in the fourth quarter of 1995 dependent on how companies have positioned themselves to take advantage of the Windows 95 era."

Although Dataquest has found the Windows 95 upgrade to be significantly less difficult than any other significant operating system upgrades, there are some outstanding issues and cautions. The memory market will be one of the beneficiaries of Windows 95, because a minimum of 8MB of memory is required to run the system, and most users will want Pentium performance as 32-bit applications become more popular.

Dataquest's Focus Report on Windows 95, titled "Windows 95: A View from Dataquest," provides in-depth analysis of the impact of Windows 95 on information technology. The report also projects the likely winners and losers following Windows 95's launch. To purchase this report, please call 800-419-DATA for more information.
