:DPT) announced today it is proceeding with its patent infringement patent infringement n. the manufacture and/or use of an invention or improvement for which someone else owns a patent issued by the government, without obtaining permission of the owner of the patent by contract, license or waiver.  lawsuits against PictureTel Corp. and Compression Labs, Inc. The PictureTel trial is scheduled to begin October 6 in Federal Court in Dallas, TX, with the CLI (1) (Call Level Interface) A database programming interface from the SQL Access Group (SAG), an SQL membership organization. SAG's CLI is an attempt to standardize the SQL language for database access.  trial scheduled for November in the same court.

In 1995, Datapoint negotiated two settlements for such infringements for a total of $1.0 million and in 1996 entered into an agreement with NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

 America, Inc. for the licensing of its video teleconferencing patents for an undisclosed amount. Several other video conferencing and multi-speed networking patent infringement suits have been filed and are pending.
