Datalogics, Inc. Expands the Adobe PDF Library Offerings to Include 64 bit Platform Support.

CHICAGO -- Datalogics, Inc. announces the expansion of their Adobe(R) PDF (Portable Document Format) The de facto standard for document publishing from Adobe. On the Web, there are countless brochures, data sheets, white papers and technical manuals in the PDF format.  Library(TM) offerings to include 64 bit platform support on the HP-UX HP's version of Unix that runs on its 9000 family. It is based on SVID and incorporates features from BSD Unix along with several HP innovations.

and Sun Solaris operating systems. Along with these additional platform offerings, Datalogics has optimized the performance of the PDF Library in the areas of document creation and processing, especially for larger PDF documents.

The Datalogics Interface (DLI DLI Department of Land Information (Western Australia)

) to the Adobe PDF Library has been enhanced to allow for easier creation of PDF files. The DLI facilitates PDF creation by reducing redundant functions occurring in the PDF Library, ultimately reducing creation time. With version 7.0 of the Adobe PDF Library, Datalogics will deliver DLI versions for both the native Adobe PDF Library and the Datalogics enhanced PDF Library offerings. Using the Datalogics DL Signer(TM) enhancements to the DLI, the PDF Library now has the ability to digitally sign a PDF file at creation time. Support for conversion of text in most common encodings to Unicode output is now provided with the DLI, improving the PDF Library's ability to typeset Unicode text.

In addition, using the DLI with the Adobe PDF Library, graphic files (JPEG JPEG

A BMP can be saved in several color options: 1-, 4-, 8- and 24-bit color provide 2, 16, 256 and 16,000,000 colors respectively. BMP files use the .BMP or . , PNG (Portable Network Graphics) A bitmapped graphics file format endorsed by the World Wide Web Consortium. It is expected to eventually replace the GIF format, because there are lingering legal problems with GIFs.  and PDF) can now be directly imported as graphical page elements in created PDF files. These images may be imported from memory as easily as from disk. For customers who do not desire disk-based PDF processing, the Adobe PDF Library has the ability to read and write PDF files directly to and from memory. Additional enhancements using the DLI for the PDF Library have been made, specifically to cache fonts that are used in multiple PDF files.

Datalogics has also incorporated printing improvements to the Adobe PDF Library offerings. The PDF Library now has the ability to print to a device context on Windows, and the user is able to preview Encapsulated PostScript (EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) A PostScript file format used to transfer a graphic image between applications and platforms. EPS files contain PostScript code as well as an optional preview image in TIFF, WMF, PICT or EPSI, the latter being an ASCII-only format. ) file generation on the UNIX UNIX

platforms. Enhancements to the JNI have also been made for Java developers to interface with the PDF Library directly from their Java applications. In addition, color and image rendering enhancements have been made to the PDF Library, including support for black point compensation when rendering PDF pages.

More Details

The Adobe PDF Library has been ported to several new platforms and compilation environments including:

--IBM iSeries (AS/400) and s/390 platforms
