Dataflex Chooses Virata Technology for New SHDSL and ADSL Integrated

Access Devices (IADs) to Address the Growing Voice-over-DSL Market

Virata(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTA) today announced that Dataflex - a European supplier of innovative access solutions to telecom operators - has selected a wide range of Virata processors and software for its newest SHDSL and ADSL IADs. The new Dataflex IAD9000 range for the small-to-medium-enterprise (SME) market incorporates Virata's Aluminum(TM) 200 SHDSL chipset, Helium(TM) communications processor and Magnesium(TM) voice DSP to deliver superior reach and increased performance to service providers. In addition, Dataflex is utilizing Virata's Beryllium(TM) integrated communications processor and PHY and Magnesium(TM) voice DSP for its low cost residential ADSL IAD products.

VoDSL technology allows the bandwidth of a high-speed Internet connection to be dynamically allocated into multiple "virtual" phone lines, making a single physical copper phone wire capable of carrying several simultaneous voice calls alongside the data. Thus, a small business could have many phone lines with enough remaining bandwidth for Internet access.
