DataSMART MAX Helps Network Managers Consolidate T1 WAN Services; ADC Kentrox introduces a family of Multimedia Access multipleXers - MAX.

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 1995--ADC Kentrox, the leading DSU/CSU (Digital (or Data) Service Unit/Channel Service Unit) A pair of communications devices that connect an inhouse line to an external digital circuit (T1, DDS, etc.).  and ATM network access equipment manufacturer, today announced their new DataSMART(R) T1 Multimedia Access Multiplexer (MAX). Building on the success of the DataSMART T1/FT1 DSU/CSUs product line, the company has created a new line of powerful multiplexers with integrated DSU/CSU capabilities and advanced network management features.

The new DataSMART MAX was designed to help network managers more fully utilize their T1 bandwidth. Network managers can reduce their recurring access charges and the number of customer premise devices they need to purchase and manage by multiplexing diverse media, such as voice, video and data traffic, onto a single T1 or T1 link. This equates to real, ongoing-savings for the end-user.

"DataSMART MAX delivers a viable solution for companies that are rightsizing Selecting a computer system, whether micro, mini or mainframe, that best meets the needs of the application.  or integrating traditional telecommunications and MIS functions into a single department," commented Olaf Nielsen, ADC (1) See A/D converter.

DataSMART MAX: Maximized Features

The DataSMART MAX is available in T1/FT1 Dual-Port Add/Drop and T1/FT1 Quad-Port Add/Drop configurations. Voice equipment connects to the T1 Terminal Interface through the integral Add/Drop port. Video and data equipment connect using data ports with software selectable interfaces; V.35, EIA-530, and RS449 are available on every port. In addition to providing access to T1/FT1 carrier services, DataSMART MAX can also access frame-based services such as Frame Relay, SMDS (Switched Multimegabit Data Service) A high-speed, switched data communications service offered by the local telephone companies for interconnecting LANs in different locations. It was introduced in 1992 and became generally available nationwide by 1995.  DXI DXI Data Exchange Interface
