DataCard Contracts with the Department of Energy to Implement Enterprise Identification Solutions.

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 1998--

New identification network helps protect

people, property and profits

DataCard announced today at the CardTech/SecurTech Conference in Washington, D.C. that it has been selected to provide a personal identification system at the Department of Energy's (DOE) headquarters in Washington, D.C. and Germantown, Md.

DataCard's Enterprise Identification Solutions are full-featured employee identification systems designed to protect personnel, facilities, assets and intellectual property. A central image database forms the core of the enterprise identification concept, storing digitized, full-color images and demographic data for everyone who enters an organization's facilities. Authorized users authorized user Radiation physics A person who, having satisfied the applicable training and experience requirements, is granted authority to order radioactive material and accepts responsibility for its safe receipt, storage, use, transfer and disposal  instantly retrieve this data for point-of-entry ID verification and production of secure, tamper-resistant IDs.

"DataCard's Enterprise Identification Solutions represent a significant enhancement of our previous access control system," said Paul Saunders Saun´ders

"Plus, Enterprise Identification Solutions give us the ability to generate reports for use by security personnel," said Saunders. "It is a user-friendly system that meets these needs -- and provides the flexibility to accommodate system enhancements and new applications."

More importantly, DataCard's Enterprise Identification Solutions integrate with the DOE's existing databases to leverage current resources.

"We went a step further to focus on how the information obtained through the system could help the DOE make decisions about staffing, facilities management The management of a user's computer installation by an outside organization. All operations including systems, programming and the datacenter can be performed by the facilities management organization on the user's premises.  and other business issues," said Michael R. Shields, president of DataCard's Enterprise Company. "In the future, all DOE field locations could tap into an open enterprise-wide database, extending these capabilities to all system users to streamline applications"

The DOE's system consists of customized badging software, two servers, four badging workstations with ImageCard(R) III photo ID printers and multiple viewing stations.

DataCard will soon upgrade the DOE's system to the new ImageCard(R) IV photo ID printers that were developed for high-volume applications that require extra-long card life and enhanced card security. The DOE also intends to implement a Web-based suite of identification software that will allow users to retrieve digital images and other information for verification and security purposes.
