 Sy Merrin's latest ChannelGuide report, just 201 superstores generated a whopping 10.6% of the $73 billion in computer product sales that passed through all retail, mail order, outbound, and VAR distribution channels during 1995. But the Merrin report (which provides detailed financial and business profiles of the five largest superstore chains) also reveals wide differences in superstore customer demographics. California-based Fry's caters to high-end techies who are the industry's most frequent and loyal buyers, resulting in annual sales of $73 million per store; Tandy's Computer City attracts a greater share of neophyte ne·o·phyte
