Data Instruments Corp. Announces Miniature Micromachined Silicon Sensor for Flow Pressure Measurement -- The SURSENSE DUXL.

SUNNYVALE, Calif--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 1997--Data Instruments Corporation, Advanced Silicon Group, announced the release of the DUXL, a new series of miniature ultra low pressure sensors A pressure sensor measures the pressure, typically of gases or fluids. Pressure is an expression of the force required to stop a gas or fluid from expanding, and is usually stated in terms of force per unit area. A pressure sensor generates a signal related to the pressure imposed. .

The new DUXL series is the latest addition to the SURSENSE family of stability compensated, micromachined silicon sensors.

SURSENSE technology is a proprietary, patent applied for technology designed to reduce all output offset and common mode errors which are traditionally found in other silicon micromachined sensors. SURSENSE sensors incorporate a silicon micromachined sensing element. The silicon sensing element is designed with a stress concentration structure to provide a highly stable linear output for ultra low pressure measurement.

Dynamic-Self-Compensation(TM) (DSC (1) (Digital Signal Controller) A microcontroller and DSP combined on the same chip. It adds the interrupt-driven capabilities normally associated with a microcontroller to a DSP, which typically functions as a continuous process. See microcontroller and DSP. ), a proprietary method of stability compensation, is included to significantly reduce output offset errors due to changes in temperature, warm-up drift, long term instability and position sensitivity.

Intended for use in air flow measurement monitors and controllers, the DUXL series provides a highly stable ratiometric millivolt mil·li·volt

output in a low profile printed circuit board mount package. This series is available in full scale pressure ranges of 1 in.H20, 5 in.H20, 10 in.H20, 20 in.H20 and 30 in.H20 for gage or differential measurement. The DUXL series offer guaranteed long term stability of less than +/-100uV over a period of one year. Position sensitivity is also guaranteed to be less than +/-5uV/g and warm-up drift +/-10uV.

The DUXL series sensors are ideal for use in air and gas flow measurements in handheld instrumentation instrumentation, in music: see orchestra and orchestration.

. The company is also a leading manufacturer of factory automation controls and machine safety equipment under the Wintriss(R) Controls brand.

Data Instruments was founded in 1977, as a manufacturer of industrial pressure sensing products and system solutions. The company was one of the first to successfully mass produce low cost media isolated sensors and transducers.

In 1994, Data Instruments acquired Next Sensors, a manufacturer of silicon micromachined sensors to further bolster This article is about the pillow called a bolster. For other meanings of the word "bolster", see bolster (disambiguation).

The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  sensor markets.
