Data General debuts handheld computer for use in hazardous environments at ID Expo '97.

DataGenie Business Unit Introduces DataGenie III/is

Data General today announced the newest addition to its family of handheld computers, the DataGenie III/is (Intrinsically Safe). Developed specifically for use in indoor hazardous locations, the DataGenie III/is carries the Intrinsically Safe Approval Standard rating by Factory Mutual Research.

The DataGenie III/is has been certified as intrinsically safe for indoor use in Class I/Division 1/Applicable Groups ABCD See CompTIA.  environments in the U.S. and Canada. It was developed to meet the needs of customers who are faced with stringent hazardous-material industry requirements. The DataGenie III/is has been certified for use with Duracell P/N (Part/Number) Common shorthand for part number.  MN/PC 1500 batteries that also have earned the same Intrinsically Safe Approval Standard rating by Factory Mutual Research for use in indoor hazardous locations. The DataGenie III/is is equipped with a high performance 32-bit RISC processor RISC processor [Reduced Instruction Set Computer], computer arithmetic-logic unit that uses a minimal instruction set, emphasizing the instructions used most often and optimizing them for the fastest possible execution. , 2Mb flash memory (expandable) and a backlit An LCD screen that has its own light source from the back of the screen, making the background brighter and characters appear sharper.  display for use in dim lighting.

DataGenie Handheld Computers are designed for data-intensive environments like warehousing and distribution, insurance, utilities, healthcare and retail.
