Data General announces AV Image 2.0; Next generation of award-winning imaging software.


WESTBORO, MASS.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1996--Data General Corp. today announced AV Image 2.0, the next generation of its award winning imaging software. The new release includes a new customizable graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

AV Image 2.0, Express-Track and Staffware run on the entire family of Data General's AViiON servers, including the recently announced Intel processor-based AViiON servers, and support the company's extensive line of CLARiiON RAID technology-based storage systems. Customizable GUI Multi-Object Documents, Enhanced Viewer

Among the new features offered with AV Image 2.0 is a new, user-customizable GUI for easier operation and increased flexibility. Win-Track, the AV Image document manager, now supports multi-object documents in which a single document can contain several object types, as well as the ability to cut, copy and paste To copy files from one location to another or to copy text and images from one document to another. All modern operating systems and applications have a copy and paste capability that is typically selected from an Edit menu. Advanced document management features in Win-Track include book-in, book-out, revision control and distribution lists for document routing. There is also support for a broader range of simplex and duplex document scanners.

AV Image Viewer, with its unique Auto-Focused Image Extraction feature, produces image file sizes 1/10 the size of other imaging systems and allows users to view image pages 15 times faster. Image viewing improvements also include scale to gray, rubber-band zoom a dynamic navigation window and a floating, resizable minipages window. Image clean-up is a snap with image enhancement See image editing.  quality features that now include de-speckle, de-skew, rotate, trim, draw bar-code, erase and undo. Additional annotation features such as cloud, drag manipulated annotations and redaction See redact.  are available on up to 255 named annotation layers.

Express-Track

AV Image 2.0 incorporates several enhancements to Express-Track, its high-volume, batch scanning and indexing system. Express-Track's Auto-Focused Indexing feature allows for rapid document indexing using form templates that eliminate the need to reference the original scanned image. Auto-indexing via bar-code recognition can further simplify the indexing process. DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) A message protocol in Windows that allows application programs to request and exchange data between them automatically.

Workflow Management

Support for Industry Standards

AV Image software supports industry standard networking protocols such as TCP/IP, so that it can be easily implemented within a users existing computing environment. Also, AV Image and Express-Track use standard relational databases such as those from Oracle, Sybase or Informix.

Availability and Pricing

AV Image 2.0 will begin shipping March and will be available to any Data General customer that has an active Software Update service agreement. Pricing starts at $695 per user.
