CLARiiON Full Fibre Channel Storage

Data General's CLARiiON Advanced Storage Division is demonstrating its full end-to-end Fibre Channel storage to the federal community. CLARiiON is the only major storage vendor currently shipping full end-to-end fibre channel storage, the foundation technology for Storage Area Networks (SANs). SANs are widely accepted as the emerging solution for enterprise storage, enabling consolidated storage pools of highly available and accessible information.

Over one Terabyte of CLARiiON storage will be managed by Navisphere(R) storage management software, a suite of products that enables system administrators to configure, control, monitor, augment, and respond to all operations of their CLARiiON storage from a single management station located anywhere in the world.

AViiON TermServer-in-a-Box

Data General's AViiON TermServer-in-a-Box provides a complete thin-client computing infrastructure in one rackmounted system ideal for federal agencies. TermServer-in-a-Box offers great performance, scalability, manageability, and high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue. , while reducing the total cost of ownership.

The TermServer-in-a-Box configuration consisting of two clustered AV3704R database servers with CLARiiON full Fibre Channel RAID disk arrays running Microsoft SQL Server A relational DBMS from Microsoft that is a major component of the Windows Server System. It is Microsoft's high-end client/server database and is closely integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio and the Microsoft Office System.  software, and three AV2700 application servers running Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  Server, Terminal Server Edition and Citrix Systems' MetaFrame load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them  software.
