Data Fellows, the global leader in computer security, announces the addition of a Macintosh platform to its popular line of F-Secure SSH (Secure SHell) A security protocol for logging into a remote server. SSH provides an encrypted session for transferring files and executing server programs. Also serving as a secure client/server connection for applications such as database access and e-mail, SSH supports a  software.

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
. Macintosh users can now set up a military-strength encryption and security solution between their branch offices, customers, vendors, and partners worldwide without being crippled by the U.S. export restrictions.

F-Secure SSH has been available for UNIX and Windows environments and has stood up to the challenges of the most demanding customers in tens of thousands of organizations throughout 40 countries, with customers including NASA NASA: see National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

. F-Secure SSH products provide unparalleled speed, strength of encryption, and ease-of-use which are now available for the first time to Macintosh users. Their unmatched cryptographic features include:

Ultra-secure TCP/IP transmissions. F-Secure SSH Client for Macintosh users can now enjoy unparalleled protection of TCP/IP services by replacing the TCP/IP terminal program telnet to provide terminal connections, thus allowing totally secure data transmissions of Internet mail and http traffic.

Unique handshake protection. An innovative combination of two technologies when, at the beginning of a data transmission, the client and server authenticate each other with the RSA (1) (Rural Service Area) See MSA.

public key technology, removing the need for a centralized authentication server.

Super-powerful encryption keys. At least 1,024-bit RSA keys for authentication and at least 128 bit keys in symmetric encryption -- which provides security that modern global computing power could not break in a billion years!

Worldwide availability. The products have been developed in Europe and thus do not fall under the U.S. ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) U.S. State Department regulations that govern the export of restricted technology to foreign states other than Canada.  export regulations. F-Secure products can be used with the same unlimited, military-grade encryption in every country where encryption is legal.

Pre-licensed algorithms. F-Secure products are sold with pre-licensed patented encryption algorithms like RSA, three-key 3DES and Blowfish A secret key cryptography method that uses a variable length key from 32 to 448 bits long. It uses the block cipher method, which breaks the text into 64-bit blocks before encrypting them. , to provide the best possible security.

"By encrypting interactive terminal and X-window sessions, eliminating plain-text passwords, and providing other services, F-Secure SSH closes some of the most significant authentication and security vulnerabilities in our distributed computational environment," explains Wayne Schroeder, principal technologist and systems and security software specialist at the San Diego Supercomputer Center.

"F-Secure SSH has been the killer security application in UNIX and Windows environments. Now the same de-facto standard works in Macintosh clients," says Risto Siilasmaa, chief executive officer of Data Fellows.

F-Secure SSH Client for Macintosh is priced at $99 per workstation, with volume discounts available.

Privately-owned Data Fellows is the leading technology provider of data security solutions for computer networks and desktop computers. In November 1996, the company's F-Secure product line was awarded the European IT'96 Grand Prize of more than $200,000 organized by the European Commission's ITEA/EURO-CASE Secretariat. The products are available world-wide in more than 40 countries through Data Fellows and its global business partners.
