Data Disaster? Take Two and Call Me in the Morning.

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1999--Adaptec Take Two, the first image-based disaster recovery program for CD-R/RW drives, was announced today. It will be demonstrated during CeBIT 99 in Hannover, March 18-24 in the Adaptec stand G56 in hall 11.

The software product easily, inexpensively, and safely backs up the entire contents of a hard disk to CD-R/RW media with just a few mouse clicks. The program can restore either the entire system or just the files the user selects.

"Adaptec research shows that consumers are hesitant to back up their data because of the technical expertise required," said Dave Ulmer, general manager of Adaptec Software Products Group. "With Adaptec Take Two software, average PC users can protect themselves from catastrophic data loss."

How It Works

Adaptec Take Two creates an image of the hard disk, and supports compression, sector skipping and spanning of data, allowing users to easily back up their hard drive to CD, no matter how big it is. Take Two creates a bootable floppy disk, allowing recovery of data in case of an entire system crash, even if the computer system is unable to boot by itself.

Take Two works together with Adaptec DirectCD packet writing software and supports all DirectCD 2.5 compatible CD-R/RW drives. Take Two can also back up data to fixed hard drives, Zip and Jaz drives. The program runs under Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0.

Availability

Adaptec Take Two will be available in May 1999 to CD-R/RW drive manufacturers and OEMs. A retail version of the product is currently not available. For more information on current or future availability, contact Adaptec at varanswr@btc.adaptec.com.
