Data Communications Names Manage.Com as One of the Top 25 Hot Startups for 1998.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1998--Manage.Com, the leader in Web-centric management solutions and developer of FrontLine Manager(TM), today announced that it has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Hot Startups for 1998 by Data Communications Magazine in its Dec. 7, 1998 issue.

Manage.Com develops Web-centric management solutions for the extended enterprise -- rapidly moving E-Businesses that are leveraging the Web to extend their business, reach new customers and connect with partners through a variety of VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks. , hosting, extranet and intranet-based services. This community is using the Web to both run and manage their business.

Manage.Com has harnessed Web-technologies such as XML XML

In commenting on its selection of Manage.Com, Data Communications wrote, "Rather than just slapping a browser onto an SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  platform, Manage.Com relies on Java applets to gather performance stats from network devices and connections. What's the payoff? The vendor's FrontLine Manager outperforms today's management systems, costs half as much and doesn't demand pricey add-ons and customization."

FrontLine Manager, which began shipping in September of 1998, addresses the limitations of today's management applications by applying the Web to deliver speed, simplicity, cost savings and mobile intelligence to the largely ignored, yet vast, middle-market.

Based on a Common Information Model (CIM) object-oriented database, the solution ensures complete investment protection and open, forward Web-based interoperability. Using a simple-to-use browser interface, local IT managers have a unified view and control over their organization's network, servers, and desktops.

"Manage.Com set out to fundamentally change the way management is delivered by using the Web to manage the Web," said Jeff Thiemann, Manage.Com's president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "An award from an industry thought leader such as Data Communications Magazine validates to users that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Current management models are broken and the Web provides a completely new way to manage business infrastructure. Call it E-Management for E-Business."
