Business & Technology Editors

SURESNES, France and LEUVEN, Belgium--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 2000

Dassault Systemes Dassault Systemes (Dassault Systèmes S.A.) (Pronounced - Dasoh) (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext: 13065) is a leading company specializing in 3D and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software.  S.A (Nasdaq: DASTY) and LMS International today announced the signing of a definitive agreement whereby LMS selects Dassault Systemes' Version 5 Application Architecture as the framework for its next generation functional performance engineering solutions, integrating multidisciplinary virtual prototyping (CAE (1) (Computer-Aided Engineering) Software that analyzes designs which have been created in the computer or that have been created elsewhere and entered into the computer. ) and physical testing (CAT). These process centric solutions will be offered within the LMS products porfolio and delivered through the LMS sales channel.

Dassault Systemes' Version 5 Application Architecture is a scalable object-based middleware Software that functions as a conversion or translation layer. It is also a consolidator and integrator. Custom-programmed middleware solutions have been developed for decades to enable one application to communicate with another that either runs on a different platform or comes from a  infrastructure offering both generic and domain specific frameworks including for multi-physics CAE applications.

By taking immediate advantage of this powerful architecture, LMS will accelerate the development and increase the scope of its core technologies and innovative solutions that speed up mission critical engineering processes, such as NVH NVH Noise, Vibration and Harshness
NVH Nahverkehr Hohenlohekreis (German)
NVH Noise Vibration and Harshness
(Noise, Vibration, Harshness), R&H (Ride & Handling), and durability. Within this alliance, Dassault Systemes and LMS will exchange critical technologies and components to mutually enrich their respective solutions.

Dassault Systemes offers a scalable range of structural analysis solutions as part of CATIA A family of 2D and 3D CAD programs from IBM. CATIA was one of the first CAD programs to provide 3D solid modeling. The program was developed by Dassault Systems, a French aerospace company. . With LMS's complementary CAE-CAT portfolio, customers who have invested in CATIA, DENEB and ENOVIA will have access to an enriched set of applications to better cover their entire product life pipeline.

"Our exposure to Version 5 unveiled a powerful and innovative open architecture that makes it the most attractive multi-platform and multi-CAD rapid application development infrastructure available today," said Dr. Urbain Vandeurzen, Chairman, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  & President, LMS International. "We are now in a position to accelerate the delivery of the most competitive, fully integrated suite of multidisciplinary process solutions for functional performance engineering. These process solutions empower our customers for engineering innovation, uniquely integrate the CAE and CAT worlds and deliver superior product performance and process efficiency."

"The endorsement of V5 architecture by LMS places V5 as the unique middleware software development infrastructure on the market to develop integrated best-in-class e-business solutions to address customers' end-to-end processes. Adding hybrid digital/real simulation capabilities on top of V5 accelerates our ability to create a digital world and make it a reality," said Bernard Charles Bernard Charles is the CEO of Dassault Systemes. LMS International Headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, LMS International provides solutions for functional performance engineering in mechanical product development. The company's CAE software, testing systems, and decision support infrastructure allow engineering teams to refine designs based on dynamic behavior such as motion, ride, handling, vibration, acoustic, NVH, and fatigue lifetime. These capabilities enable users to understand and solve dynamic problems, turning upfront attribute optimization into a strategic competitive advantage. The LMS solutions are process-centric within the digital development environment and deliver enterprise-wide productivity throughout the development process. Through its Engineering Services Division, LMS also provides vehicle development support from overload contracting and troubleshooting, technology transfer, up to co-development projects. Dassault Systemes S.A. (Nasdaq: DASTY) is the premier global software developer for the CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM II market, providing companies with e-business solutions to implement their digital enterprise, thus creating and simulating the entire product life cycle from initial concept to product in service. CATIA, ENOVIA and DENEB solutions support industry-specific business processes to help unleash creativity and innovation, reduce development cycle time, improve quality, competitiveness and shareholder value : CATIA supports the digital product definition and simulation, DENEB provides solutions to define and simulate digital manufacturing processes and ENOVIA delivers enterprise solutions that manage a comprehensive, collaborative and distributed model of the digital product, processes and resources. The combined integration creates the Digital Product life Pipeline, supporting re-use of corporate knowledge. SolidWorks and SmartSolutions, as Dassault Systemes companies, offer respectively 3D design-centric and TeamPDM software solutions based on Windows.

In 1998, Dassault Systemes introduced a new generation application architecture for all its products called "Version 5". This architecture is object-oriented and based on components supporting and anticipating the emergence of new technologies such as CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) A software-based interface from the Object Management Group (OMG) that allows software modules (objects) to communicate with each other no matter where they are located on a private network or the global , JAVA, OLE and Web to develop multi-tier and web based Coming from a Web server.
