Entreprendre pour la Cite and the Engage Network - announced today the launch of Mobi3, a unique educational opportunity for middle school students. The companies have partnered with the French Ministry of Education to set up an innovative year-long syllabus for 120 young people from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. Through the program, the students will participate in a team project and discover hands-on the technology, processes, people and careers linked to the creation of a mobile phone.

As part of the program, student teams will create mobile phones using 3D modeling software as well as make proposals on how they would manage each phase of the phone's lifecycle. At the end of year-long program, teams will present their projects to a jury of professionals from participating companies.

"Our goal is to help the students project themselves into future studies and professions by providing them with opportunities to get an insider's view on professional life. The mobile phone is something central to the lives of these preteens, and as the project focus, will spark and maintain their interest throughout the curriculum," says Estelle Lauvergne, Mobi3 project coordinator at IMS - Entreprendre pour la Cite.

The Mobi3 project highlights the complementary role that each partner company plays in the mobile phone lifecycle (from design to sales and recycling), and puts students in direct contact with professionals from these companies who will share their experience and expertise, providing a direct link between the private and public sectors. Students will benefit from exposure to a wide variety of skills and professions through this B2B (Business to Business) Refers to one business communicating with or selling to another. See B2B e-commerce, B2C and B2G.

* Dassault Syst[c]mes offers insight to 3D design and Product Lifecycle Product lifecycle or product life cycle is the course of a product's sales and profits over time. The five stages of each product lifecycle are product development, introduction, growth, maturity and decline.  Management and what it's like to work as a research and development engineer and how industrial processes are simulated. Students will design a digital prototype of the mobile phone using Dassault Syst[c]mes' 3D modeling software.

* Nokia gives students experience of careers in marketing, product management, and manufacturing/logistics. Students will plan the marketing campaign for a new mobile phone, defining its price, product specifications, and distribution and promotion strategies. They will also plan for the manufacturing process, managing orders, inventories, etc.

* DLA Piper teaches students about the legal aspects regarding new mobile phones, particularly intellectual property rights, and what being a lawyer involves. Students will learn about how to protect original works and inventions as well as the purpose, function and protection of trademarks.

* IBM shows students how to manage and setup a mobile network and exposes them to the engineer profession and the evolution of telecommunications.

* SFR exposes students to the sales cycle. Students will plan for the phone's commercialization in specialized stores and learn what it means to be a sales representative.

The Mobi3 project has been selected as an example of innovative CSR (1) (Customer Service Representative) A person who handles a customer's request regarding a bill, account changes or service or merchandise ordered. Agents in call centers are known as CSRs. See call center.  and will be presented at the European MarketPlace on CSR conference in Brussels on November 29. For more information, please visit:
