Darwin Networks Secures $91 Million in Second Round of Venture Capital Financing.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 2000

Darwin Networks, a leading provider of wireless and wireline high-speed Internet See broadband.  access and private, wide-area networking (WAN) solutions, recently announced the closing of a $91 million second round of venture capital funding. The announcement brings Darwin Networks' total venture capital financing To start an own company or to bring a new product to the market, the venture may need to attract financial funding. There are several categories of financing possibilities. If it is a small venture, then perhaps the venture can rely on family funding, loans from friends  to approximately $120 million raised in just over a year. The company raised $29 million in a first round of financing in August of 1999.

Concurrent with the announcement of the new round of funding, Darwin Networks announced a new organizational structure. Effective immediately, the company is moving from a vertical market-based structure to a geography-driven structure. As such, Darwin Networks is creating multi-functional offices in each of its 12 core markets: Louisville, Atlanta, Austin, Cincinnati/Dayton, Dallas, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Philadelphia, San Diego, Seattle/Portland, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Walnut Creek/San Francisco and Washington, DC/Baltimore.

Each office will cross-sell and deploy all of the company's products to each of its customer segments, as well as service all of the company's existing customers in those markets and elsewhere in its region. As part of the reorganization, Darwin Networks has made the following changes among its senior management staff:
-- Pat Mulloy, who joined Darwin Networks in June as the company's Chief
Development Officer, will become the company's new Chief Operating Officer,
reporting to Spector.

-- Larry Pitterman, formerly Chief Operations Officer, will become President of
the East Region, based in New York City.

-- Glenn Meyer will serve as President of the West Region, based in Seattle,
while continuing to oversee the company's activities targeted at the MDU
market.

-- Joel Coleman will serve as President of the Central Region, based in
Louisville, while continuing to oversee the commercial market.

-- David Wigglesworth, President of the Hospitality Division, will also manage
the Kiosk Solutions Division - formerly the Public Access Division.


The organizational shift is a continuation of Darwin Networks' recent high growth. Since the beginning of the year, the company has grown from 175 employees to over 600 nationwide.
