Darden Business Publishing Launched at International Management Conference.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 2003

The Darden School, the University of Virginia's graduate business school, will launch a new business unit at the 2003 Academy of Management Conference in Seattle August 3 through 5. Darden Business Publishing will distribute intellectual content developed by the world's leading business educators.

Darden Business Publishing provides a broad range of business education materials, including text and multimedia case studies, simulations, and e-learning products, to educational institutions, corporations, and individuals. It has also established alliances with publishers and distributors to integrate Darden case materials with textbooks and online learning sites.

To head this new venture, the school has named Katharine M. Amato Director of Darden Publishing. A 1980 Darden MBA graduate, Amato has worked as a product manager at General Mills, a sales manager at AT&T, and vice president of marketing at Paul B. Williams in Greensboro. Over the last seven years, she and a partner built a North Carolina-based publishing company.

"Our goal is to strengthen the school's mission of staying close to business and addressing the issues facing corporate leaders," Amato says. "Darden Business Publishing will reinforce Darden's position as a top international producer and distributor of educational materials and help build the Darden brand."

At Darden Business Publishing's Academy of Management booth, several Darden faculty members will discuss their research and case materials. Professor Patricia H. Werhane will sign her new book, Employment and Employee Rights; Professor Lynn A. Isabella will discuss leadership and her new multimedia case on State Farm Insurance; Professor Sherwood C. Frey will lead a presentation on proactively managing risk; and Professor Joseph W. Harder will talk about organizational behavior.

The Academy of Management is a professional society primarily composed of professors who conduct research and teach management around the world. Nearly 5,000 participants are expected at this year's annual conference.
