Daphne targets double award.


FORMIDABLE Welsh Lamb farmer Daphne Tilley (pictured below) was this week nominated for two top awards.

The Denbighshire producer is one of three lady finalists contesting this year's NFU NFU National Farmers Union (Denver, CO and Washington, DC)
NFU National Farmers’ Union of England and Wales
NFU No First Use
NFU Norwegian Farmers' Union
NFU North Florida University
 Cymru/NatWest Wales Woman Farmer of the Year title.

She's up against Carmarthenshire's Loraine Makowski-Heaton, who started the dairy goat Dairy goats are personable, hardy, and a very rewarding animal. A female goat is called a Doe. A male goat is called a Buck. If the male goat is castrated it is called a wether. Goats milk is the most consumed milk in the world.  enterprise Kid Me Not, and Talgarth Suffolk specialist Katherine Price.

Daphne's firm Elwy Valley Welsh Lamb, Henllan, has enjoyed another high-profile year supplying London's restaurants.

As a result it also finds itself shortlisted in this year's Countryside Alliance The Countryside Alliance (CA) is a British organisation promoting issues relating to the countryside such as food, farming and country sports (hunting, shooting and angling).  Awards in the Local Food category.

The same category will be contested by Harlech's Hufenfar Castell (Castle Creamery), which produces artisan ice cream and sorbets.

Meanwhile the West Arms Hotel, Llanarmon DC, near Llangollen, is a finalist in the Rural Enterprise section. A former cattle drovers inn, it's now run by former GB cyclist Lee Finch, wife Sin and chef Grant Williams.
