DapTechnology Launches ``FireStealth,'' First Non-intrusive IEEE 1394b Analyzer.

PHOENIX -- DapTechnology, a leading supplier of advanced IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  1394 protocol analyzers See network analyzer.  and solutions to the aerospace, defense, industrial, automotive and consumer electronics markets, announced today the release of FireStealth, the first non-intrusive IEEE 1394b Analyzer.

DapTechnology's FireStealth, incorporating a patent pending technology, is the industry's first "Stealth Mode Taking place in secret. It often refers to the position that startup companies take when developing a product they feel will be very competitive in the marketplace. They swear everyone to secrecy and keep a very low profile until they are ready to launch. " IEEE 1394b analyzer. The FireStealth IEEE 1394b analyzer is a bus monitoring device that is attached to the IEEE 1394b bus, leaving the existing topology unaffected. The device does not participate in the bus configuration and so there is no topology reconfiguration and node ID reassignment. FireStealth's passive personality and non-intrusive behavior renders it invisible to all other devices on the IEEE 1394b bus. Also, it does not participate in any bus management activities such as root contention, cycle start generation and transmission arbitration.

In a typical IEEE 1394 bus, the connected devices are dynamically assigned IDs upon a bus reconfiguration. This process occurs every time new devices are added or removed from the bus. During such events, a bus reset is triggered and the topology of the bus is reconstructed. "With the presence of a regular analyzer the resulting change of node IDs can be a nuisance for many IEEE 1394b product developers as it potentially has serious consequences in serial bus management layer debugging (programming) debugging - The process of attempting to determine the cause of the symptoms of malfunctions in a program or other system. These symptoms may be detected during testing or use by real users.  tasks. What is needed is an analyzer that can monitor and record events on the IEEE 1394b bus without affecting the state of the bus in any way," said Azim Mohammed, vice president, sales and marketing for Dap (Directory Access Protocol) A protocol used to gain access to an X.500 directory listing.
