Lee McConnell Lee McConnell (born October 9, 1978) is a Scottish athlete who competes in the 400 metres and 400 m hurdles. In addition to winning medals in individual contests, she has been a fairly successful relay runner. Her personal best time over 400 m is 50.82 seconds.  will face a re-match with British rival Natasha Danvers- Smith at the Norwich Union Norwich Union is an insurance company in the UK. Scotland's McConnell last faced the English athlete in the Commonwealth 400m hurdles final in March, taking the bronze medal behind Danvers-Smith, who took silver.

The Glaswegian cannot wait to return to continue her evolution from 400m to 400m hurdles runner on Tyneside.

McConnell said: "Melbourne was a massive boost to my confidence. It really proved I have made the right decision in choosing to persevere with the hurdles.

"The Norwich Union Grand Prix is the next step for me.

"A major UK Athletics meeting is an ideal way to get my season off to a flyer and the fact Natasha will be there is great."

Danvers-Smith added: "Melbourne was a great indication I am getting back to the sort of shape I was in two years ago.

"It felt great to be competing at that level again and I cannot wait for the summer season."

McConnell and Danvers-Smith will also face former Commonwealth champion Andrea Blackett of the Bahamas in Gateshead.

Meanwhile, Nicola Sanders, who finished fourth in Melbourne after being heavily tipped for a medal, will race over the flat 400 metres.
