This announcement was made today by Alain Levy, president & chief executive officer, PolyGram.

Goldberg replaces Ed Eckstine who is leaving Mercury to start his own label which will be funded and distributed by PolyGram. During the last eight years, Eckstine has been one of the most successful A&R executives at PolyGram, overseeing releases by artists such as Lionel Richie, Vanessa Williams, Tony! Toni! Tone!, and Brian McKnight.

Most recently, Goldberg served as chairman/CEO of Warner Bros. Records Warner Bros. Records Inc. is an American record label that operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Warner Music Group. It is internationally known as WEA International Inc.  from January until August of 1995. Prior to that, he was president of Atlantic Records, where he was responsible for the signing of Hootie and the Blowfish A secret key cryptography method that uses a variable length key from 32 to 448 bits long. He began his career as a music journalist writing for publications such as Billboard and Rolling Stone and later worked as a publicist for artists including Led Zeppelin. Additionally, Goldberg was the co-producer and director of the film, "No Nukes." He also is the president of the Los Angeles affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), nonpartisan organization devoted to the preservation and extension of the basic rights set forth in the U.S. Constitution. .

Levy said, "Danny Goldberg has a great track record as an artist friendly music executive with a keen feel for trends in the marketplace. I'm sure that he will fit well with the other PolyGram label presidents. I look forward to having him rebuild the existing artist roster and to have him discover and nurture new talent.
