Danny's Marc of quality.

Byline: Ed Casey

DANNY LENNON reckons St Mirren stopper Marc McAusland is maturing into a quality defender.

The 23-year-old turned in another fine display at the weekend when he helped the Buddies draw 0-0 with Dundee United.

That was the club's 12th clean sheet this term and boss Lennon reckons McAusland has played a key role in their backline.

He said: "Marc has been outstanding. We brought him back from Queen of the South last season and he got our Young Player of the Year.

CREDIT "He played a lot of last season at right-back but his best position is centre-back.

"He has been the most developed player at the club this season. Marc is a little bit more intelligent after having a run of games.

"He used to go to ground a lot but his timing and reading of the game are now great.

"Lee Mair needs to take a lot of credit for that, for the way he has nurtured him.

"They have been solid together. We're a lot tighter now and have worked hard on the training ground."
