In association football, a midfielder is a player whose position of play is midway between the attacking strikers and the defenders (highlighted in blue on the diagram).
 Emily Danner was named the Class 4A player of the year, while first-year coach Phil Larsen was chosen 4A coach of the year. Danner, who also earned Midwestern League MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip.  honors, has reportedly given a verbal commitment to play soccer at Oregon next season.

Three local players earned first-team selection in Class 3A/2A/1A.

Pleasant Hill's Jeana Bruington, a senior midfielder; Marist's Ali Boyum, a junior midfielder; and Glide's Amy Croll, a senior forward, were all chosen to that squad.

On the boys side, Marist senior midfielder Drew Macha was the Class 3A player of the year.

Wrestling

Josh Bendix had a pin at 119 pounds and Brian Kernutt pinned his opponent at 145 to lead Willamette to a 46-9 Midwestern League dual-meet win over visiting North Eugene.

Trevor Stock had a pin at 125 pounds to lead the Highlanders.

Host Willamette got four wins by pin en route to a 45-9 dual-meet victory over South Eugene.

Kevin Ballard (135 pounds), Brian Kernutt (145), Robbie Bowman (160) and Steven Winn (215) had the pins for the Wolverines.
