Danielli put in a fine allround display, headlined by a stunning first-half try which set Scotland on their way to a much-needed victory.

Scotland won quick ball off the top of a line-out and Mike Blair spun the ball out to Phil Godman who picked the pass up off his toes and fed Graeme Morrison in midfield.

Morrison popped the ball up inside for Danielli, who hit the defensive line at great pace and then left Matteo Pratichetti in his wake as he scorched scorch

Danielli's first try since the Calcutta Cup match of 2004 provided the significant part of Scotland's 16-3 half-time lead.

The Ulster winger then made a half break in the second half to set Thom Evans racing clear before the Glasgow winger fed Scott Gray to dive over for Scotland's decisive try midway through the second period.

It ensured the former Bath star picked up the man-of-thematch award and stopped him agonising over his performance in Paris.

He said: "This game showed just how fickle rugby can be sometimes."
