A long time friend of the Kurds, Danielle Mitterrand and a French delegation attended an ordinary session of the Kurdistan Parliament.

Opening the session, Parliament Speaker Kamal Kirkuki welcomed Mitterrand, praising her ongoing support to the people of the Kurdish region and its cause.

Addressing the parliament, Mitterrand expressed her delight to visit the Kurdistan Region and attend a session in parliament.

"Being in the Kurdistan Region is like being at my home, we are one family," she said.

During her speech to the Kurdistan Parliament, Mitterrand urged the Kurdish people to attach greater importance to water issues, agriculture and justice, saying that Kurds are people with a rich heritage and culture.

She also offered congratulations to the Kurdistan Region's leadership and its population on the success of the recent parliamentary and presidency elections and the process of democratization.
