Daniel Witcher Jr., an energy executive with broad experience in management consulting and international sales and marketing, has been named president and chief executive officer of Energy Information Technologies Inc. (EIT), developer of advanced Internet-based metering solutions.

Dr. Sung Suh, EIT chairman, said in announcing the appointment that Witcher will bring a depth of business and international experience to spearhead EIT's drive to become a leader in the rapidly emerging field of Internet-based electric and gas metering and management.

"We are very fortunate to have a leader of Dan's caliber join EIT at a time when we expect our business to expand dramatically," said Dr. Suh. "His knowledge of the energy business and global markets will add tremendous strength to our management team."

EIT is the developer and marketer of an Internet-ready energy meter called the i-meter, an advanced time-of-use meter that will transmit energy usage data over the Internet. The Burlingame-based company recently announced a strategic alliance and investment with Samsung Data Systems America (SDSA) through which the two companies will jointly develop and market an Internet energy information system that will enable competitive markets to drive down energy costs for residential and small commercial customers.

"With energy supplies tightening and prices rising, and with analysts forecasting possible serious shortages over the next few years, the timing is excellent for energy pricing information that gives control back to the customer," Dr. Suh said. "Dan's sales and marketing expertise will be vital as we ramp up our marketing efforts for the i-meter."

Witcher most recently has been executive vice president and general manager of Efficient Solutions Inc., a Metairie, La.-based firm providing turnkey energy management services. At Efficient Solutions, Witcher managed a turnaround and reorganization for a network of 7,000 customers in 17,000 locations.

Prior to his position at Efficient Solutions, Witcher served as vice president, marketing and sales, and later vice president, international, for Energy Performance Services in Philadelphia, a firm that develops, implements and operates energy efficiency and supply projects world wide. Witcher assisted in the start-up of EPS and subsequent sale of controlling interest to PECO-Energy (Philadelphia Electric Company).

Witcher has 26 years of diverse experience in sales, marketing and consulting. He holds a B.A. degree in business and economics from the University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, SP-Brazil, and an M.B.A. from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas.
