DANIEL CHARLES TOOMEY Dec. 16, 1935 - Feb. 19, 2007 Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on Monday, February 19, 2007 after a courageous battle with congesti ve heart failure. He leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Connie; his children, Dan, Jr. and Shannon, and their spouses Betsy and Chris; and his cherished grandchildren, Danny, Mary, Colleen and Matthew. His greatest pride and love was his family. Dan was brought into this world by Daniel and Alys Toomey on December 16, 1935 in Los Angeles, California. He excelled in sports and played football for championship teams at Loyola High School and UCLA. Dan graduated from UCLA and Loyola Law Sch ool. He remained a lifelong Bruin fan and loved his Phi Kappa Psi fraternity brothers. He had a long and distinguished career in the insurance industry. Throughout his 40 year career he earned a reputation as a mentor and creative leader. He retired from the Unigard Insurance Company in 1993 where he managed all claims activity for the Western United States. Dan's love of sports carried on throughout his life. He was a mentor and leader for many youths in the Santa Clarita Valley. He coached fla g and Pop Warner football for many years. He founded the Val-Por Swim League and Canyons Aquatics Club. He also served as the SCVAA Track Commissioner and as a Board Member of the Hart High Quarterback Club. For this commitment Dan received the first annual Ray Greenlee Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to his community. Dan will always be remembered for his great love of the outdoors, fishing, boating and exceptional knowledge of history and events. He was proud to be born of Irish ancestry and loved singing his favorite Irish songs and reliving the lives of his grandparents born and raised in Ireland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dan Toomey to the "Sanders Single Wingers Endowed Football Fund" a new fund that has been established to provide scholarships for the UCLA football team.
